Dear Hickory Hills Parents,

We are in the final weeks of school and this is a very busy time of year.  We still have many learning objectives that still need to be reached and we will need your help keeping students focused all the way to the end.  Please continue to ask students if they have completed their homework and if they have any upcoming test or projects due.

Our end of year testing is currently underway and will be concluded by May 16.  All students 2nd - 8th grade will be taking the end of the year Performance Series Test in Communication Arts, Reading and Mathematics.  Each student is given the Performance Series test three times to year to monitor growth.  After the beginning of the year test, each student received an end of the year growth target in all three areas.  Once we have concluded the end of the year testing, parents will receive a letter showing the gains for the school year.  This is very informative information for you and for the staff.  As always, please encourage your child to do their very best.

Our last day of school is Wednesday May 23.  This will be an early release day.  Classes will be dismissed at 12:45 p.m.  You can stay informed with all of our daily announcements and weekly events by visiting our school website at http://sps.k12.mo.us/hhills/

Happy Holidays!

Dear Hickory Hills Families and Friends,

This is a busy time of year for everyone and here at Hickory Hills there is no exception.  Many of our students are demonstrating their musical talents this month for our parents and each other by performances both day and night.  I hope you had a chance to attend one of our performances this holiday season.  Our Holiday Food Basket drive was very successful.  Thank you for your kindness.  We sponsored 15 families this year and there was plenty to go around.

When we return from the Winter Break, there will be only eight days remaining in the first semester of school.  Students will be out on Friday, January 13 and Monday January 16.  The first day of third quarter will be Tuesday, January 17.  Typically third quarter is very challenging for students to stay focused.  I encourage each of you to stay involved and in touch with your child's teachers to make sure there is no let down in the classroom.  Please do not hesitate to contact the school when you have concerns.  The staff and I are here to serve these children and the Hickory Hills community.

Thank you for everything you do to support the students and staff at Hickory Hills School.

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!

End of 1st Quarter

Dear Hickory Hills Families,
I hope everyone is doing well and you are happy with the service that we are providing you and the Hickory Hills community.  Our first quarter has come to an end and very soon grade cards will be coming home for middle school students.  Elementary teacher will pass out grade cards at  your parent teacher conference.  If you do not have a conference scheduled, it is not too late.  Our Parent/Teacher conference week is scheduled for November 7-11.  Our goal for the elementary school is to 100% representation during this time.  I encourage middle school parents to schedule a conference if you have any concerns regarding your child's academic performance first quarter.

Thank you for all of your support that you give your child and the staff at Hickory Hills.  Please do not hesitate to call me if you ever have any concerns.

Thank you,
Kelly Allison

Car Line Assistance Needed

Hickory Hills Parents and Friends,
In order to keep the car traffic flowing before school, I need your help.  We need to minimize the number of parents that are walking their children in each day.  Every time a child is walked into the building it holds up traffic twice.  Once on the way in and once on the way out.  Now that we are in our third week of school, I think it is important for students to learn that they can be responsible and walk in on their own.  We have several adults on duty inside and outside of the building that will assist students when needed.  When dropping off students, please remember to pull forward as far as possible next to the curb and let your children out when traffic stops.  We need to unload four or five cars at a time to keep traffic flowing.

Thank you for your cooperation and I hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend!

Back to School

August 30, 2011

Hello Hickory Hills Community,

I am happy to report that we are off to a great start to the 2011-2012 school year.  Everyone is settling in to a good routine and we are having school.  We have a lot to be thankful for at Hickory Hills School.  Students have the opportunity to learn in the healthiest learning environment in the state of Missouri.  The Hickory Hills community supports our teachers and has high expectations for student achievement at every grade level.

I encourage each of you to stay connected with your child's teachers and do not hesitate to contact us with any concerns or questions that you might have about your child's education.  We are here to serve this community and your input is always welcomed.

A big THANK YOU to our PTA and PTSA for the wonderful breakfast and lunch that you provided our staff last week.  It was greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
